Getting Started with Yellowbrick 6.0

Welcome to the Getting Started Guide for Yellowbrick Data Warehouse Version 6.0!

If you need more information, the current Yellowbrick Data Warehouse documentation contains details about basic database administration, workload management, SQL commands and functions, and so on. Much of this information applies to Version 6.0.

What's New in Yellowbrick 6.0

Yellowbrick Data Warehouse Version 6.0 runs natively in an AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), using a Cloud Data Warehouse Manager (CDWM) control plane built on Kubernetes. Yellowbrick 6.0 is provisioned with AWS EC2 hardware instances and provides a cloud-based SaaS platform for in-depth analysis of high volumes of data.

The Yellowbrick Manager GUI provides quick and simple access to the system. You can use this single web-based interface to:
  • Provision and manage Yellowbrick instances within your deployment, setting limits and policies for hardware resources.
  • Create and manage one or more Yellowbrick clusters per instance, with flexibility for assigning workloads or specific queries to different hardware resources as needed. Databases are independent of clusters; work within a particular database can be attached to different clusters with adjustable hardware and WLM resources.
  • Create and manage users and roles, databases, schemas, tables, and other database objects.
  • Bulk load tables from object storage via the Load Assistant or a SQL command (LOAD TABLE). Loads from parquet files are supported, as well as text and csv.
  • Run queries, create database objects, and monitor activity.

You can also connect to clusters using your own ODBC and JDBC applications and Yellowbrick ybtools.

Prerequisites

  • Yellowbrick Manager supports the current version and the last two public releases of the following browsers:
    • Chrome
    • Firefox
    • Edge
  • Before loading your own data from an AWS S3 bucket, make sure you have your AWS account credentials ready at hand (such as an access ID and a secret key).
  • Be sure to install Version 6.0 ybtools before using these tools to connect to Version 6.0 databases. The currently supported tools are ybsql, ybload, and ybunload.
